Are oatmeal chocolate chip cookies healthy?
Recently, the trend for wholesome and healthy eating is gaining more and more popularity. But in my opinion, you should not rush from one extreme to another. I judge the usefulness of food by the following parameters:
- Calorie content of food. After all, it’s no secret that a person needs a certain number of calories per day. And it is desirable that they be properly distributed throughout the day. Ideally, when the body receives food with a slight calorie deficit. And the body will cover this deficit by burning fat reserves.
- Nutritional balance, ie eating a variety of foods that cover all the needs of the body. That is, if you eat only greens, it is of course useful for the body, but this will not cover all its needs at all. A variety of vitamins, micro and macro elements, and saturated fats – this is the key to health and prosperity.

Let’s move on to the list of necessary products for baking oatmeal chocolate chip cookies
If you decide to please your family with the amazing taste of chocolate chip oatmeal cookies and their amazing texture with a crispy crust, I recommend paying attention to the following ingredients for oatmeal chocolate chip cookies:

Butter
It must not only be purchased but also pre-prepared. Namely, take it out of the fridge. This is done so that it softens and is equal to room temperature. Both salted and unsalted butter can be used. Here, focus more on your personal preferences. We need 2 tablespoons of this product. But keep in mind that this amount is already indicated for melted butter, which is cooled to room temperature.
Rolled oats
I recommend choosing quick oats for oatmeal chocolate chip cookies. You can experiment and use traditional rolled oats. But still, for the first time, I recommend taking my version, because this is a very important moment when preparing this dessert. 1 cup.

Whole wheat flour
Is a great option for those looking to get the most out of it. ¾ cup.
Egg
1 large or 2 small.
Salt
0.5 teaspoon.
Baking powder
If it suddenly was not at hand, do not despair. Take regular baking soda. It will also help you complete your tasks. 1.5 teaspoons.
Vanilla
(I use vanilla extract) – a teaspoon.
The dark chocolate chips
We need to make this amazing chocolate chips cookie. I choose the ones made with dark chocolate. With this ingredient, I don’t stick to strict quantity recommendations. Depending on the mood and wishes of loved ones, I add less (1/2 cup) or more (3/4 cup) dark chocolate chips.

Cinnamon
I used almost 1.5 teaspoons. But you can decrease or increase this amount according to your preference. I know there are people who don’t really like cinnamon.
Honey
12 chocolate chip cookies made for about 0.5 cups.
Nuts, dried fruits of your choice! I most often add some lightly roasted walnuts and raisins.
Note! The ingredients shown and their proportions are designed to make approximately 12-15 cookies, i.e. 12-15 servings (will depend on which servings you form).
If you look at the energy and nutritional value, then it is worth noting that in 1 serving of oatmeal chocolate chip cookies, there will be:

In the list of ingredients, I mentioned quick oats. I recommend this particular variety due to the fact that these flakes are ideal in size and texture for making oatmeal chocolate chip cookies. During production, such flakes already undergo a partial cooking process, and then they undergo a drying process.
This ensures a short cooking time. The texture of chocolate chip cookies is slightly moist and has crispy edges on top.

We roll it with our hands and proceed to prepare oatmeal chocolate chip cookies refined sugar-free with crispy edges
Step 1: Preparatory stage
Since the process of preparing dough for oatmeal chocolate chip cookies takes very little time, first of all we need to prepare the oven. We turn on the equipment and set the temperature to 325 degrees Fahrenheit.
For baking, we need a large baking sheet. To make it easier to clean, I recommend lining it with parchment paper or using a special non-stick baking mat.
Step 2: Mix the ingredients for cookie dough

We take prepared oatmeal, cinnamon (this component is optional), baking powder or baking soda (depending on what you have at home), flour, and salt. Mix dry ingredients in a large mixing bowl.
Let’s move on to wet ingredients. In a separate bowl, mix the egg, add melted and cooled to room temperature butter, then add honey and vanilla extract. Mix in a large bowl with a spoon or rubber spatula.
Step 3: Mix all the ingredients

We take our dry mix and add liquid ingredients to it. Now take a spatula or a tablespoon and mix gently so that the consistency is uniform.
Important! It is very important to make the mixing process accurate. If you get carried away, this can lead to the oatmeal chocolate chip cookies being too hard and tough.
Step 4: Chopping the chocolate chips

My chocolate chips are large enough for this cookie, so I prefer to crush them before adding them to the dough. I spread about half and grind it with a knife.
I press the other half into the formed oatmeal cookies.
Step 5: Chilling the dough
This step is very important, so I urge you not to skip it. Take the cookie dough and put it in the refrigerator for half an hour. If you don’t have that much time, you can cheat a little and put the cookie dough in the freezer for 12-15 minutes. In my experience, the result is about the same.
Step 6: Shaping the healthy oatmeal chocolate chip refined sugar-free

We take out the chilled cookie dough from the refrigerator (or freezer) and begin to form oatmeal chocolate chip cookies. From the indicated quantity and volume of ingredients, usually from 12 to 15 pieces come out. We spread them on a pre-prepared baking sheet, which we cover with parchment paper or non-stick baking mats.
Step 7: Baking oatmeal chocolate chip cookies refined sugar-free

Put the cookie sheet in the oven and bake for 12 minutes. This is usually enough time for the cookies to brown and start beckoning you with their aroma. After that, we take them out and begin to press in the remaining dark chocolate chips.
Be careful! The oatmeal chocolate chip cookie is hot and the chocolate will melt very quickly. Don’t get burned!
Step 8: Completion of oatmeal chocolate chip cookie

We leave the baking sheet with ready-made oatmeal chocolate chip cookies and collect all our will into a fist! After all, we need to wait until they cool down a bit and not eat everything at once). And now, you can enjoy it!
Just don’t eat it all at once!
Honey or sugar?
You can make a healthy oatmeal chocolate chip with the addition of coconut sugar. This ingredient is a great alternative and works well as a sweetener. Coconut sugar goes through a rather complicated production process.
For its manufacture, coconut palm sack is used as the base ingredient. Coconut sugar is distinguished by the presence of a taste of toffee or even caramel. It vaguely resembles another type of sweetener – brown sugar.

In addition to coconut sugar, another option that can be used to create gluten-free healthy oatmeal chocolate chip is date sugar.
You can also use a liquid sweetener, such as maple syrup.
Can you make vegan oatmeal chocolate chip cookies?
Why not? In this case, it is necessary to make several substitutions in the ingredients, namely:
- Replace traditional butter with coconut oil for vegan oatmeal cookies.
- We also add natural butter and almond oil.
- Instead of traditional chocolate chips, we choose vegan chocolate chips.
Oatmeal chocolate chip cookie: Recommendations and work on bugs
Even with the simplest oatmeal chocolate chip cookies recipe and the smallest amount of ingredients, something can go wrong. Let’s take a look at the most common situations that can happen. This will avoid mistakes.

Too flat healthy oatmeal chocolate chip cookies
Yes, this can happen. But don’t be wasted. It will still taste just as delicious. Why might this happen? First of all, the cause may be an imbalance of ingredients. The second reason is the lack of a dough cooling stage. That is, if you clearly follow the proportions and step-by-step instructions, then you are unlikely to encounter this problem.
What needs to be done so that the healthy oatmeal chocolate chip
do not become hard?
Care must be taken to ensure that the chewy cookies are in the oven for no more than 12-13 minutes. Otherwise, it will be overbaked and lose its chewy texture inside.

After that, ready-made healthy oatmeal chocolate chip are recommended to be stored in an airtight container. This is the best storage container. An airtight container will prevent the staling process from starting and keep the structure moist inside.
How to store healthy oatmeal chocolate chip cookies?
It is recommended to store the finished chewy cookies in an airtight container. This will keep the cookies from losing their unique structure. Although, I will say from my own experience: if you have children and sweet lovers in the family, then you don’t have to worry about this issue.
For me, this cookie disappears in less than two days. If you control your consumption and use your treats rationally, then you can store these healthy freshly baked cookies in an airtight container for no more than 2 weeks.
Is it possible to freeze cookies in order to increase their shelf life?
Yeah, why not! You must wait until the cookies are completely cool before eating them!)
Get a ziplock bag. Lay out the cookies in a single layer and squeeze out any excess air. And put it in the freezer. Now you can prepare it for future use and get it a little bit as needed.

There is another option – to freeze the prepared dough. Form balls of the appropriate size and place them on a baking sheet, which must first be covered with paper. Put in the freezer for about 35-40 minutes.
After that, you can take out the balls and transfer them to a special freezer storage bag. To prepare cookies, you just need to get the balls and put them on a baking sheet, put them in the oven. No pre-freezing is required.

Tips to help you achieve the perfect result:
- Don’t skip the chilling step. Of course, this is real torture, but it is necessary! It is this process that gives you the chewy structure of the cookies on the inside and the crispy edges on the outside.
- Before storing cookies in a container, make sure it is airtight.
- You can use oatmeal for this recipe. The cookies are very tasty! What’s more, you can try making your own oatmeal at home. Another great option for a healthy oatmeal chocolate chip is almond flour.
- When mixing liquid ingredients, it is very important that the butter and eggs are at room temperature. This guarantees the best emulsification during dough preparation.
- If you are using a healthy coconut sugar chocolate chip cookies recipe, I recommend choosing a light-colored baking mat for baking. This is due to the fact that sugar tends to burn faster. To ensure proper control and a timely response to the situation, it is best to use a light-colored non-stick mat, which will immediately show the process of burning the cookies from below.
- A variety of ingredients can be added to the recipe, depending on your preferences. For example, flaxseed, nuts, coconut, and various dried fruits will be useful.
